Calder House Hotel started life as a girls boarding school in 1882. After it closed in 1968 the building was converted into a hotel. The present owners Steve Ainley and Andrew Gainford restored much of the property s original character while ensuring that residents enjoy thoughtfully appointed en-suite rooms and complementary wi-fi. The hotel is situated right on the west Cumbrian coast enjoying spectacular views across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. Guests can enjoy these views over dinner in the restaurant or on balmy summer evenings in the hotel s seafront garden. Seascale beach is just moments away and a short drive takes you to Wastwater widely considered to be Britain s favourite view . You can explore England s deepest lake highest mountain and smallest church in this part of the Lake District. Alternatively you can enjoy a trip on England s oldest narrow gauge railway the Ravenglass & Eskdale. Whatever your reason for visiting west Cumbria come and unwind with a pint of locally-brewed real ale in our bar at the end of the day. We are also conveniently situated near Sellafield only a short five minute drive to the main gate making us an ideal location for contractors looking for somewhere local to stay whilst away on business.
