Hotels and Bed and Breakfast in Kendal
Kendal is a large town just beyond the eastern border of the Lake District National Park. It is also only a short distance from the M6 and accessible from the A590, A684 and the A6, depending on which way you are coming from.It is a much larger town than you might expect, with assorted shops packed into a variety of quirky arcades to either side of the main street. Certainly, there are plenty of places you can pop into for a slice of Kendal mint cake. It has good connections to other parts of the Lake District, both by bus and train, so those without other means of transport will find it a practical base for their stay.
As it is a larger area you can expect a wider range of Kendal B&B options too. The ‘Auld Grey Town’, as it is known (thanks to its many grey limestone buildings) has both basic and more luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation to choose from.
There are many attractions nearby too. A trip along the A591 takes you right into Windermere for example. The village of Troutbeck, once home to Beatrix Potter, isn’t far from the shores of the lake. Walks are plentiful nearby too, with fells including Fairfield Peak and Red Screes quite easy to find. You can also take a drive along the famous Kirkstone Pass, with its winding road and steep ups and downs. Follow this north and you’ll end up at Lake Ullswater. Wherever you go, your Kendal B&B will await you on your return.
